Air filters
A clogged filter is behind a large share of summer AC problems, and it's the easiest thing to fix yourself.
Find your size
The size is printed on the edge of your current filter, for example 20x25x1. Take a photo so you buy the right one every time.
Which filter to buy
- MERV 8 pleated: the best fit for most homes.
- MERV 11: helpful for allergies and pets; check it more often.
- MERV 13+: only if your system is designed for it. Ask a technician.
How often in the Temecula Valley
- Summer, typical home: every 30–60 days.
- Pets, vineyards, open land or construction nearby: every 30 days.
- Winter: every 90 days.
- After Santa Ana winds or wildfire smoke: check right away.
Write the install date on the filter's edge with a marker so you know at a glance how long it's been in.
